lotter plate method and aflatox<strong>in</strong> contam<strong>in</strong>ation by <strong>in</strong>direct competitive ELISA. <strong>The</strong> seed <strong>in</strong>fection <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> test l<strong>in</strong>es<br />

ranged from 0 to 40% and aflatox<strong>in</strong> contam<strong>in</strong>ation was between 0 to 6,668 μg kg -1 , respectively. Five <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 30 elite<br />

aflatox<strong>in</strong>-resistant l<strong>in</strong>es (ICGV 01002, ICGV 01149, ICGV 02148, ICGV 02189, and ICGV 02191) showed 80% foliage damaged) at 105<br />

DAS.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> elite variety trial, Spanish types, ICGV 02410 was <strong>the</strong> best performer (4.7 t ha -1 pod yield; 63% shell<strong>in</strong>g<br />

outturn) dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> 2005 ra<strong>in</strong>y season. <strong>The</strong> highest yield<strong>in</strong>g control <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> trial was ICGV 98374 (4.2 ± 0.33 t ha -1 ).<br />

ICGV 02410 performed equally well dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> 2005 ra<strong>in</strong>y season (3.4 ± 0.21 t ha -1 pod yield). In <strong>the</strong> elite variety<br />

trial, Virg<strong>in</strong>ia types, ICGV 02434 (4.9 ± 0.46 t ha -1 pod yield) outperformed <strong>the</strong> best control ICGV 98373 (3.2 ±<br />

0.45 t ha -1 pod yield).<br />

In Spanish elite variety trial, n<strong>in</strong>e l<strong>in</strong>es significantly out yielded (3.0 - 2.0 ± 0.21 t pod yield ha -1 ) <strong>the</strong> highest yield<strong>in</strong>g<br />

control, ICGV 98374 (1.6 t ha -1 pod yield). In this trial, ICGV 04060 (3.0 t pod yield ha -1 , 64% shell<strong>in</strong>g out-turn,<br />

LLS score = 5.0, and rust score = 2.0) was <strong>the</strong> best l<strong>in</strong>e. In <strong>the</strong> Virg<strong>in</strong>ia elite variety trial, three entries ICGV 04087,<br />

ICGV 04091, and ICGV 04094 out-yielded <strong>the</strong> best control ICGV 86699 (1.7 t ha -1 , 60%, 4.0 and 2.0). Five l<strong>in</strong>es<br />

(ICGV 02410 and ICGV 02411 <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Spanish group, ICGV 02429, ICGV 02434, and ICGV 02446 <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Virg<strong>in</strong>ia<br />

group) were selected for <strong>in</strong>clusion <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational trials.<br />

High oil content: Forty-six breed<strong>in</strong>g l<strong>in</strong>es were evaluated dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> 2005/<strong>2006</strong> post-ra<strong>in</strong>y season for oil content<br />

and pod yield <strong>in</strong> a replicated trial. ICGV 01274 (5.5 t ha -1 pod yield, 49.0% oil content, and<br />

1.9 t ha -1 oil yield) and ICGV 00009 (5.4 t ha -1 , 50.5%, 1.8 t ha -1 ), produced significantly higher pod yield than <strong>the</strong><br />

highest yield<strong>in</strong>g control, ICGV 86564 (4.6 t ha -1 , 47.0%, 1.5 t ha -1 ). Both <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se l<strong>in</strong>es also had higher oil yield. But<br />

for oil content per se, ICGV 00351 (4.3 t ha -1 , 51.0 %, 1.6 t ha -1 ) and ICGV 00171 (4.4 t ha -1 , 51.5%, 1.5 t ha -1 ) were<br />

quite good. <strong>The</strong> oil content <strong>of</strong> entries <strong>in</strong> this trial ranged from 51.5 - 44.7%, and <strong>the</strong> prote<strong>in</strong> content from 26.9% -<br />

18.4%. Twelve l<strong>in</strong>es had an oil content ≥50%. In <strong>the</strong> <strong>2006</strong> ra<strong>in</strong>y season, ICGV 01274 (4.3 t ha -1 pod yield) was <strong>the</strong><br />

top performer under irrigated conditions.<br />

Medium-duration: Seven hundred and n<strong>in</strong>ety advanced breed<strong>in</strong>g l<strong>in</strong>es (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g controls) <strong>in</strong> 16 replicated trials,<br />

and 76 l<strong>in</strong>es <strong>in</strong> 2 augmented trials were evaluated <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 2005/<strong>2006</strong> post-ra<strong>in</strong>y and <strong>2006</strong> ra<strong>in</strong>y seasons for pod yield<br />

and o<strong>the</strong>r agronomic traits.<br />
