Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Annual Rabi/Summer Season Groundnut Workshop 2005/<strong>2006</strong> <strong>of</strong> AICRP-GN, 21 new varieties were<br />

proposed for <strong>in</strong>clusion <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> coord<strong>in</strong>ated trials. Of <strong>the</strong>se, 10 varieties had ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>ICRISAT</strong> supplied germplasm or<br />

breed<strong>in</strong>g l<strong>in</strong>es <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir parentage or were direct <strong>in</strong>troduction (ICGV 91114, ICGV 98281, ICGV 98223, ICGV<br />

96110, ICGV 97045, ICGV 98396, and ICGV 98412). In addition to <strong>the</strong>se, 47 o<strong>the</strong>r l<strong>in</strong>es have been <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong><br />

different state-level multi-location trials.<br />

Nepal: Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) released two high-yield<strong>in</strong>g varieties ICGV 86300 (as<br />

Rajarshi) and ICGV 90173 (Baidehi) for general cultivation <strong>in</strong> Nepal.<br />

Timor Leste: After one more year <strong>of</strong> on-farm trials, <strong>the</strong> M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> Agriculture <strong>in</strong>tends to propose two groundnut<br />

varieties, ICGV 88438 and ICGV 95278, for release <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country.<br />

Uzbekistan: ICGV 86155 - a short-duration variety, as ‘Salomat;’ and ICGV 94088 - a medium-duration variety, as<br />

‘Mumtoz,’ have been released for cultivation <strong>in</strong> Uzbekistan. Salomat is recommended for plant<strong>in</strong>g as ma<strong>in</strong> crop and<br />

also as double crop <strong>in</strong> Kaskkadarya and Surkhandarya prov<strong>in</strong>ces <strong>of</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Uzbekistan. Mumtoz is recommended<br />

as a ma<strong>in</strong> crop throughout <strong>the</strong> country.<br />

Philipp<strong>in</strong>es: <strong>The</strong> Ilagan Agricultural Research Station, Ilocos, has <strong>in</strong>troduced ICGV 86564 - a large-seeded variety<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> region. This variety has outperformed <strong>the</strong> local as well as improved varieties <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> region, both, <strong>in</strong> terms <strong>of</strong><br />

yield and seed size. It has been named as ASHA <strong>in</strong> India, which means ‘Hope’. It has been <strong>in</strong>troduced <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

farmers’ fields <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nor<strong>the</strong>rn prov<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> country, Ilagan. Farmers are impressed with its performance. It has<br />

been <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> state trials so that it gets released <strong>of</strong>ficially.<br />

Ghana: <strong>The</strong> groundnut research <strong>in</strong> Asia has spill over benefits for Africa also. Recently, <strong>the</strong> Savanna Agricultural<br />

Research Institute, Ghana, released two groundnut varieties, which were developed at <strong>ICRISAT</strong> Center, Patancheru,<br />

India. ICGV 92099 - released as Gusie-Bal<strong>in</strong>, is an early-matur<strong>in</strong>g high-yield<strong>in</strong>g variety with resistance to leaf spots.<br />

ICGV 90084 - released as Kpaniely, is a medium-duration high yield<strong>in</strong>g variety with high oil content and resistance<br />

to leaf spots.<br />

Breeder seed (25.5 t) <strong>of</strong> five varieties (ICGS 44, ICGS 76, ICGV 91114, ICGS 11, and ICGV 86564) was produced<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 2005/<strong>2006</strong> post-ra<strong>in</strong>y and <strong>the</strong> <strong>2006</strong> ra<strong>in</strong>y seasons, and 21.6 t was distributed to different public and private<br />

sector seed produc<strong>in</strong>g agencies and farmers for fur<strong>the</strong>r seed multiplication.<br />

Milestone: Technical <strong>in</strong>formation and public awareness literature/documents developed and dissem<strong>in</strong>ated (Annual)<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>2006</strong> issue <strong>of</strong> International Arachis Newsletter with 16 articles from 5 countries, and news and views items<br />

from different parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world was published.<br />

On-farm evaluation <strong>of</strong> components <strong>of</strong> aflatox<strong>in</strong> management <strong>in</strong> groundnut: Integrated aflatox<strong>in</strong> management<br />

trials us<strong>in</strong>g compost, gypsum, and Trichoderma viride was conducted dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> 2005 ra<strong>in</strong>y season <strong>in</strong> 10 farmers’<br />

fields at threevillages <strong>in</strong> Pileru area <strong>of</strong> Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, India. In a 100 2 m experimental plot,<br />

compost (5 t ha -1 ) was <strong>in</strong>corporated <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> soil after field preparation, Trichoderma (sand coated 100 kg ha -1 ) was<br />

applied <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> soil at sow<strong>in</strong>g and gypsum (500 kg ha -1 ) was applied at <strong>the</strong> flower<strong>in</strong>g time. <strong>The</strong> plant<strong>in</strong>gs were carried<br />

out dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> second fortnight <strong>of</strong> July us<strong>in</strong>g local variety TMV 2, which is highly susceptible to aflatox<strong>in</strong><br />
