serving as a liaison with the CAA and NCAA offices. Also responsible for writing,
editing, designing and publishing all media materials for the Department of Athletics and
for maintaining individual and team records for immediate and historical reference on all
sports teams. This individual understands that compliance is a central element of
employment and is responsible for adhering to NCAA, CAA and institutional rules and
regulations.
Supervises game-day operations with all facets of media services, including press row
seating, operation of the media room, press conferences and post-game reporting.
Contacts hometown news media of student-athletes to keep them apprised of
accomplishments.
Coordinates all photography for the department and maintains a photo archive. Assists
Seahawk Club and Alumni Association with special projects.
Serves as sports supervisor for men's soccer and women's soccer. Oversees Department
of Athletics’ web site, www.uncwsports.com, updating all layers daily. Assists Director
of Athletics with other duties as assigned.
REPORTS TO: The Director of Athletics.
POSITIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISED: Assistant Sports Information Directors,
Post-graduate Intern and Communication Studies Interns.
BASIC FUNCTION: To publicize the university’s intercollegiate athletic program by
performing the above duties. This position is responsible for pre-event publicity, event
coverage and post-game reporting.
POLICY-MAKING AND/OR INTERPRETATION: As part of the administrative
staff for the Director of Athletics, this position is involved in departmental policies.
PROGRAM DIRECTION & DEVELOPMENT: As Director of Sports Information,
this individual formulates direction of the program and development to cover the needs of
the student-athletes.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position is held by a professional who needs little
or no supervision. Direction received from the Director of Athletics.
