BASIC FUNCTION: The Student Aid Association’s mission is to provide funding for
scholarships for student-athletes and to raise capital funds to enhance the athletic
facilities and overall athletic program. This position is responsible for: major gift
planning and solicitation, oversight of all annual giving activities including all special
events, and expansion of corporate partners sponsorship program. Serves as liaison for all
fund raising activities within the Department of Athletics and that of its personnel,
advancement and the university. Serve as Executive Director of the Seahawk Club and
liaison with the Seahawk Club Board of Directors.
POLICY MAKING AND/OR INTERPRETATION: This position is involved with
policy making relating to the athletic program and the mission of the department and
interpretation of university, CAA and NCAA policies as they relate to athletics.
PROGRAM DIRECTION AND DEVELOPMENT: The UNCW Athletics
Development Department contains two functions, the SAA and annual giving to the
Athletic Department. The goals are similar: to generate revenue to benefit the athletics
program through a non-profit agency, the SAA. The specific purpose of the SAA is to
raise money for athletic scholarships from the private sector and the university
community. Funds are raised through a major annual campaign, fundraising events and
managed sports clubs. A Board of Directors elected from the private sector governs the
SAA.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The Director of Athletics.
LEVEL OF PUBLIC CONTACT: A great amount of public, university and business
community contact is necessary. Seeking the business community’s involvement with
annual campaign support and major gift solicitation are primary responsibilities of this
position. Community contact is also enhanced through public appearances, speaking
engagements, and participation in special events.
MONETARY RESPONSIBILITY: Monies received are deposited into proper
accounts.
STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONFIDENTIAL DATA: As a
member of the Director of Athletics staff, any knowledge of confidential data is protected
and never released without specific acknowledgement of release from the party involved.
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF POSITION: This position requires a person who
is trustworthy and loyal to the institution and the Department of Athletics, enthusiastic
about the department’s direction and potential growth. Must have experience in major
gift and planned giving, with demonstrated leadership abilities and success in athletics
