REPORTS TO: Associate Athletic Director/Executive Director of Student Aid
Association (Seahawk Club).
POSITIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISED: None.
BASIC FUNCTION: This position, through professional management and development
skills, is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Student Aid Association
(SAA) and special events associated with the SAA. Also, it will be involved in the
development, planning and implementation of a comprehensive annual giving program
utilizing volunteers, telethon and direct mail solicitation. It will also prepare all annual
giving materials, brochures and solicitation calendar; prepare and maintain all campaign
reports and mailings; provide leadership for a volunteer network of over 50 individuals
and recruit, train and motivate those volunteers for purpose of general annual support;
maintain website for athletic advancement; focus on gifts $1,000 and less and budget
relieving in-kind donations; and assist in identifying and researching major gift prospects.
This individual is solely responsible for the overall fund raising database which includes:
planning and directing the donor giving records; establishing procedures for services and
provide input changes and enhancements to system; monitoring devices and techniques to
ensure integrity, both financial and informational, of the system; oversee data control,
data entry and record processing activities. It also works closely with the SAA’s board
members, campaign volunteers and members; various businesses, sponsors and vendors,
and the athletics marketing and promotions staff. This individual understands that
compliance is a central element of employment and is responsible for adhering to NCAA,
CAA and institutional rules and regulations.
POLICY MAKING AND/OR INTERPRETATION: This position is involved with
policy making relating to the athletic program and the mission of the department and
interpretation of university, CAA and NCAA policies as they relate to athletics.
PROGRAM DIRECTION AND DEVELOPMENT: The UNCW Athletics
Development Department contains two functions, the SAA and annual giving to the
Department of Athletics. The goals are similar: to generate revenue to benefit the
athletics program through a non-profit agency, the SAA. The specific purpose of the
SAA is to raise money for athletic scholarships from the private sector and the university
community. Funds are raised through a major annual campaign, fundraising events and
managed sports clubs. A Board of Directors elected from the private sector governs the
SAA.
