The information on policies and procedures is intended for the use of the University of
North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) Department of Athletics. The manual supplements
the UNCW Operating Policies and is intended to provide information that will assist
athletic department employees with their duties.
All policies referenced within the text of the UNCW Department of Athletics’ Policies
and Procedures Manual under the Financial Administration and Control heading are
established UNCW policies and can be found online

SCOPE
The Athletics Business Office is the central agency for the financial needs of the
university’s 19 varsity sports, the UNCW Seahawk Club, and related department
administration and staff. Our commitment is to provide consistently reliable, timely and
accurate service in all athletic fiscal matters.
The Athletics Business Office oversees athletic team, staff and administrative travel and
spending in accordance with NCAA compliance regulations and university standards
while in keeping with the valued integrity of the university and its long term economic
goals.
The Athletics Business Office will be administered by the Associate Athletic Director for
Business, under the supervision of the Director of Athletics. All requests for expenditures
of athletic funds shall be initiated with the Associate Athletic Director for Business.
Each varsity sport and supporting program within the athletics department will have a
separate and identifiable budget. Within each budget there will be a line item breakdown
which will identify the proper areas and amounts from which there can be expenditures

A. ACCOUNTING PROCEDURES
Athletics’ accounting procedures are based on State, University and departmental
policies in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. See

B. BUDGETING PROCEDURES
All departments within the University of North Carolina Wilmington submit
annual budget requests which, once approved, are incorporated into the
