3. for any other athletics reason
An athletic scholarship may be increased as follows:
1. between the period of time when the student-athlete signs the financial aid award
letter and the beginning of the period of the award; and
2. subsequent to the date on which the student-athlete receives any benefits as part
of the student’s financial aid grants (which is determined on the first day of
classes for a particular academic term or the first day of practice, whichever is
earlier), an institution may increase the student-athlete’s financial aid if the
institution can demonstrate that such an increase is unrelated in any manner to an
athletics reason
The Department of Athletics will make all athletic scholarship recommendations to the
Financial Aid Office for approval. The Department of Athletics reserves the right to make
recommendations for athletic scholarship awards or for athletic scholarship changes, within
NCAA guidelines.
Any reduction or cancellation of aid during the period of award is permissible only if such
action is taken for proper cause by the regular disciplinary or financial aid authorities of the
institution and the student-athlete has been provided written notice of an opportunity for a
hearing.
I Renewals and Non-renewals of Athletic Scholarship i
The renewal of institutional financial aid based in any degree on athletics ability shall be
made on or before July 1 prior to the academic year in which it is to be effective. The
institution shall promptly notify in writing each student-athlete who received an award the
previous academic year and who has eligibility remaining in the sport in which financial aid
was awarded the previous year whether the grant has been renewed or not renewed for the
ensuing academic year. Notification of financial aid renewals and nonrenewals are approved
and prepared by the Financial Aid Office.
Hearing Opportunity Required:
If the institution decides not to renew or decides to reduce financial aid for the ensuring
academic year, the institution shall inform the student-athlete in writing that he or she, upon
request, shall be provided a hearing before the Financial Aid Appeals Committee. The
