This position also serves as sports supervisor for men’s and women’s cross country,
indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.
The Associate Athletic Director for Business is given the authority by and support of the
Director of Athletics to plan, organize, implement and direct the job tasks as related to
the overall functioning of the Athletic Business Office, and to formulate and put into
force departmental guidelines necessary to guarantee an efficient and effective business
operation. This position has the authority to sign on behalf of the Director of Athletics
during his/her absence.
This position must be keenly aware of the rules and regulations as set forth by the State
of North Carolina, the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Colonial Athletic
Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and to keep currently
updated on any revisions, additions/deletions so as to assure that financial transactions
are handled within their guidelines and are properly documented for audit purposes by all
parties.
REPORTS TO: The Director of Athletics.
POSITIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISED: Athletic business office employees
BASIC FUNCTION: The Associate Athletic Director for Business is the financial officer
for the Department of Athletic and performs the functions of planning, formulation,
direction, implementation and control of fiscal operations for the Department of Athletics.
The Director of Athletic relies on the Associate Athletic Director for Business to prepare
the annual athletic budget, to keep the director currently advised of budget status through
detailed financial reporting and to monitor and exercise control of all budget
disbursements. To control and audit monies generated, disbursed and expended by the
Department of Athletics, control the expenditure of funds by individuals and divisions
and monitor fiscal affairs within the department is a primary responsibility. Supervises
the Athletic Business Office personnel giving them direction and goals.
POLICY-MAKING AND/OR INTERPRETATION: Setting policies and procedures
for the Department of Athletics, interpretation of university, CAA and NCAA policies.
PROGRAM DIRECTION & DEVELOPMENT: As a member of the athletic
administrative staff, this position is directly involved in all program direction and
development.
