X. UNCW STUDENT AID ASSOCIATION
PURPOSE
The Seahawk Club, legally incorporated as the UNCW Student Aid Association, Inc., is a
non-profit organization for the primary purpose of raising funds from the private sector for
athletic scholarships for the various sports at UNCW. It also raises funds for capitol
improvement for the athletic departments. It may also raise funds for the improvement and
construction of physical facilities. The Seahawk Club works on an annual budget,
conducting focused fund-raising campaigns throughout the fall. These contributions come
from individuals, businesses, foundations and corporations. Each contributor receives
various benefits, depending on the number of years and the amount of the contribution. The
Seahawk Club is the official support organization for UNCW Athletics. All fund raising is
under the umbrella of the Office of University Advancement.
ATHLETIC STAFF INVOLVEMENT
The coaches and staff members are expected to work with the Seahawk Club in the
furtherance of this organization so that both men’s and women’s athletic teams may derive
benefits from the efforts of the organization.
In the interest of good public relations, and in order to maximize the efforts of the director of
the Seahawk Club, all athletic staff members should be prepared to attend meetings of the
Seahawk Club as invited by the Director of Athletics and/or Executive Director of the
Seahawk Club.
SOLICITATION OF FUNDS
No solicitation by any coach or staff member should be made except in conjunction with the
Student Aid Association. All gifts and donations will be channeled through the Student Aid
Association Office.
A. Annual Giving/Non-Restricted Gifts
Those funds given by friends and supporters of the Athletic Department who wish the
support to go into the general scholarship area to be awarded to the various sports at
the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
B. Annual Giving/Restricted Gifts
Those funds given by friends and supporters of the Athletic Department who have
special interest in particular sport and wish their donation to go directly to that sport’s
scholarship fund. Monies remaining in a particular sport’s scholarship fund, after all
NCAA allowable scholarships have been funded, will be used to fund special
projects.
