If you work the night shift, your supervisor may temporarily reschedule you to a different shift for<br />

the following reasons:<br />

<br />

<br />

<br />

training or other staff development;<br />

informational meetings;<br />

workers’ compensation light duty;<br />

emergencies.<br />

If you do not work the night shift, your supervisor may temporarily reschedule you to the night shift<br />

for the following reasons:<br />

<br />

<br />

<br />

<br />

to cover vacant night shift positions during the vacancy filling process;<br />

to cover for a night shift employee’s days off;<br />

to meet a temporary need for additional staff on the night shift;<br />

emergencies.<br />

If your supervisor decides to temporarily reschedule to the night shift, s/he will:<br />

1. decide which work area(s) employee(s) will be rescheduled from;<br />

2. decide which class(es) are needed;<br />

3. offer the assignment to capable and qualified employees (most State Seniority to least) until it<br />

is accepted. If no one accepts,<br />

4. offer the assignment to capable and qualified intermittents until it is accepted. If no one<br />

accepts,<br />

5. reschedule the capable and qualified employees with the least State Seniority excluding<br />

intermittents.<br />

Extra Hours Procedure<br />

For Fergus Falls, Moose Lake and Willmar only:<br />

If additional work is needed within the posting period and it cannot be performed by previously<br />

scheduled employees (i.e. temporary reassignment), the following procedure will apply.<br />

You are not eligible for the work if it would cause overtime according to the Fair Labor Standards<br />

Act.<br />

Any hours you are assigned beyond the fourteen (14) day posting period are not covered by these<br />

provisions.<br />

All part-time employees will be eligible to participate in this procedure.<br />

Employees interested in working voluntary extra hours, may sign up to work at separate<br />

work sites. One of those work sites must be the employee’s current work site.<br />
