Silver stateres struck by the Celts far up the Danube valley, <strong>in</strong><br />

imitation of the f<strong>in</strong>e tetradrachms issued by Philippos ii of Make-<br />

dohia (figs. 207, 2o8)\ sometimes transform the head of <strong>Zeus</strong> <strong>in</strong>to that<br />

of a two-faced bearded god resembl<strong>in</strong>g Ianus(figs. 209, 2io)l Aga<strong>in</strong>,<br />

may be conjectured that this Sicanian image was 6 Terpdcoros, later rationalised <strong>in</strong>to a<br />

Phoenician freebooter {supra n. 6).<br />
