were so named as dwell<strong>in</strong>g '<br />

when the word bora had passed out of general use, surviv<strong>in</strong>g only <strong>in</strong><br />

the Macedonian Mount Bora and <strong>in</strong> Boreas the w<strong>in</strong>d 'from the<br />

Mounta<strong>in</strong>s,' they were popularly supposed to live 'at the back of the<br />

North W<strong>in</strong>d.' The road to their far-distant country was conceived<br />
