were alike kept <strong>in</strong> the house of their priest, who held office for a<br />

year only*, we must suppoie that they were statues of manageable<br />

weight, life-sized figures of th<strong>in</strong> beaten bronze at the most^<br />

<strong>Zeus</strong> militant with bolt and bird occurs sporadically throughout<br />

the classical period. He appears <strong>in</strong> this guise, now as a bronze<br />
