PI. xxxii, I is a small silver statuette (height : o"o65, with base o'l) found by a v<strong>in</strong>e-<br />

grower at Macon <strong>in</strong> 1764 together with other statuettes <strong>in</strong> the same metal and about<br />

30,000 gold and silver co<strong>in</strong>s, mostly of imperial date, but none later than Gallienus (260<br />

268 A. D.). N<strong>in</strong>e of the statuettes, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g this one, are now <strong>in</strong> the British Museum<br />

{Brit. Mus. Cat. Silver Plate p. 8 no. 27 pi. 6). The thunderbolt of <strong>Zeus</strong> has a lotus-bud<br />

towards either end. Beside the god is a she-goat (Amaltheia?) : cp. supra i. 52 fig. 28,<br />
