was paired with Dionysos^ or with a Satyr- or with Sarapis (?)^<br />

<strong>Zeus</strong> wear<strong>in</strong>g an oak-wreath and acorns, with Hermes (?) wear<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a w<strong>in</strong>ged hat Hke a helmets Cicero's Hemneraclae^ may mean no<br />

more than 'herms of Herakles".' But the actual<br />

group<strong>in</strong>g lanus-wise of Hermes with Herakles<br />

is sufficiently attested by an as of the gens<br />

Rubria, struck c. 86 B.C. (fig. 296)", perhaps also<br />

by a double bust <strong>in</strong> the Vatican". Another bust<br />

<strong>in</strong> the same collection couples a youthful Hermes,<br />

wear<strong>in</strong>g a petasos, and a bearded Dionysos, with<br />

b<strong>in</strong>es a bearded Dionysos and a beardless Satyr, both crowned with<br />

ivy". Yet another, <strong>in</strong> the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge, shows<br />

an ivy-wreathed Silenos together with a bay-wreathed Apollon<br />

(fig. 297)^-. We f<strong>in</strong>d a Janiform arrangement even of a tragic and<br />

Silver ketntdrachma of Thasos (c. 411—350 B.C.) have oVjv. Janiform head of a bald<br />
