careful exam<strong>in</strong>ation of the orig<strong>in</strong>al one<br />

would not venture to decide. But it rem<strong>in</strong>ds<br />

me of the copper co<strong>in</strong>s struck under<br />

Septimius Severus at Ba.ris (Isdarfa, Sparta)<br />

on the Kestros <strong>in</strong> Pisidia, which portray<br />

a double-headed deity, with two or four<br />

arms', clad <strong>in</strong> a lion-sk<strong>in</strong> and grasp<strong>in</strong>g<br />

bow and club (figs. 354, 355)* or bow,<br />

club, and sword (fig. 356)^ D. Sest<strong>in</strong>i <strong>in</strong><br />

1828 mistook him for a group of Herakles<br />

and Hephaistos'*. J. Friedlander <strong>in</strong> 1879<br />

was the first to recognise <strong>in</strong> ' him e<strong>in</strong>en<br />
