The really dist<strong>in</strong>ctive feature of the anthropomorphic lanus is,<br />

of course, his double face. On republican and imperial co<strong>in</strong>s he<br />

is almost^ <strong>in</strong>variably bifrontal. Denarii of the gens Furia, struck<br />

right; rev. i'MTRPX[ni]MP vii[i] cosvpp s c lanus hold<strong>in</strong>g long sceptre, on a base<br />

beneath an arch.<br />
