Once super directories are located, draft a friendly, informal request. Establish a one-to-one
relationship by complimenting the directory’s features and the service performed for the
targeted audience. Try to direct the request to an individual. If a name isn’t published at the
site, send the request to the Webmaster.
It’s important that you keep track of the directories you e-mailed your request to and the
person contacted. You should follow-up to see that your link was added and send a second
request if it isn’t.
After getting your link added to super directories, next tackle sites that offer a product or
service that complements your site’s. Request that these sites add a your link. Describe in
your request how your link benefits visitors to their site. You can find many of these sites at
super directories, in search engines, from signatures of participants in discussion groups,
and under compatible headings in classified ad sites. Be prepared to offer a reciprocal link if
that is what it takes for the complementary site to add your link.
The web offers a host of opportunities for joint partnerships with other sites – both
complementary and non-related sites. Creativity and a willingness to experiment can
produce a wealth of ideas for:
Cooperative advertising
Joint promotions
Shared content
Sales associate programs
Co-sponsored events.
If you are in a field or special area which doesn’t have a quality super directory or could
easily support another one, consider starting your own. Create a new web page and begin
collecting links to related resources until you have the most comprehensive directory in your
field. Actively promote your super directory in discussion groups, search engines, and with
announcements and classified ads.
