"Spin"
An angle or way to describe an event that makes it more interesting, more newsworthy to an
audience and to the media. Much as a newspaper’s headline and news story are meant to catch
the public’s eye, the objective of the "spin" put on a Web event is to catch the attention of Net
users and the media.

Usually, a text ad included with messages sent to subscribers to a mailing list or newsletter.
Target Audience
An online community based on a common interest, skill, beliefs, etc. Online communities that
you want to let know about your Web site, product or service are your "target audiences".
Thread
A series of messages on the same subject. Also a "discussion thread."
URL (Uniform Resource Locator)
An unique address for a site, page or document on the World Wide Web.
Usenet
A term applied to thousands of newsgroups (bulletin boards) on the Internet.
Visitor
A Net user who comes to a Web site.
Web Traffic
The number of Net users that check out your site. Not "hits", not "impressions" (Lesson 10),
but real live individuals who visit your site. Traffic is comprised of first-time and repeat
visitors. Counting the number of visitors at your site is an excellent way to keep score. Visitor
count tells you how successful your mastery of web marketing techniques is.
