Exercise 2-5 – Choosing an Automatic Registration Service
Although the web has hundreds of search engines, about 95% of the traffic generated by them will
come from the eight or nine major search engines. Does that mean that you should ignore all
others? No. Every little bit helps but the lesser search engines don’t justify you spending time
registering at them individually. The solution is to have an automatic registration service do it for
you.
Dozens of companies generally offer either a service or software to download. The number of
search engines they register you at varies from company to company. So does the fee and their
effectiveness.
Companies that offer a service are likely to charge you for a one-time shot. Each time you use
their service you pay another fee.
Software you download usually allows you to register as many times as you want during a limited
time period, such as one month, or no time limit.
Whether it’s fee-based registration or software, you must fill out an input form with the
information necessary for registration at all the search engines included in the company’s
