Shortcomings of Automatic Registration
Automatic registration is far from a perfect solution for your registration needs. Either the search
engine has its own unique registration form that is not properly completed by the automatic
registration or it recognizes that a robot is trying to register. Some search engines reject or assign
a low priority to robot registrations. They want live individuals to visit their site so they can show
better traffic numbers to their advertisers or because they want to promote their fee-based
services.
That’s why in the next exercise you will learn how to manually register at major search engines
where it’s worth your time to customize your registration so that you do it right. These search
engines are too important to leave to automatic registration.
Companies which offer a manual registration service as opposed to automatic find that manual
submissions often get listed quicker and with better results.
TIP: Consider setting up a separate email address for registration. You can expect a lot of email,
some of it junk email, as a result of registration. If you don’t want to pay for another email box,
use one of the free email services available, such as at http://www.hotmail.com.
