2. Click on "Search for a mailing list of interest" link. The site’s search feature finds your
search word in names, titles, and host names. You can search on multiple topics by inserting
a comma between topics.
3. A page of lists matching your search words is returned. I searched for "publishing". Twenty
matches were found. Each had a link to a description, number of members, archived web
site, and subscribing information.
4. Subscribe to those lists that look worthwhile based on subject and number of members.
Ideally, subscribe about a week in advance of posting to the list. You will get email
instructions for acknowledgement that you are a member. Save these instructions. They will
tell you how to post to the list and how to unsubscribe when you are ready to quit. They will
also contain the moderator’s email address if you need to complain because your
announcement was never posted.
5. Add subscribed lists to the Group Evaluation Report from Exercise 3-7 under the "Mailing
Lists" heading.
6. Plan how to customize your announcement for each list. Follow the same suggestions as in
Exercise 3-6 for newsgroups:
Subject line
Personal touch to announcement
Offer something of value
Modify your signature if applicable.
7. Post your announcements to selected lists.
8. Monitor each list for several days to make sure that your announcement is published and to
answer any responses.
9. Unsubscribe to any lists that you don’t have time for.
