Exercise 8-8 – Renting Somebody Else’s Mailing Lists
If you think you have an appealing product or service to promote, and are impatient at the
rate it’s taking you to build web traffic and a mailing list for e-mail marketing, consider
speeding up the process by renting large mailing lists of your target audiences from list
owners. A targeted list gives you an opportunity to instantly reach large numbers of users –
numbers that are beyond your reach using conventional promotional techniques.
The best approach is to test results on a relatively small targeted list. Do the math: percent
of inquiries and sales versus numbers contacted. If you are pleased with the results, then
you can confidently move on to much larger lists. With the right offer, you could be
catapulted to overnight success.
Not All List Owners Are the Same
Internet’s most heated controversy is over bulk e-mailing. In simplest possible terms, this is
the unauthorized use of e-mail addresses for sending unwanted e-mail. The Internet and a
simple software program that strips email addresses from postings in discussion groups
make it possible for millions of names to be inexpensively compiled into a mailing list. It’s a
direct marketer’s dream. For net users it can be a major annoyance to have their e-mail box
