Wemay think of the two ends as representing theteachings of the Twelve Apostles, and thetwenty-four surfaces between as representing thetwenty-four elders (prophecies pertaining to theKingdom of God). God is unchangeable;although the different operations of His Plan, indifferent ages, make Him seem changeable tomankind. But the perfected Plan will be theadoration of all His creatures. This gem alsoshows how God can take characters whoseconduct may have been very irregular, and byskillful cutting make them copies of Himself.<strong>The</strong> twelfth, an amethyst.— Royalty. A stoneof a violet color, bordering on purple, composedof a strong blue and deep red. <strong>The</strong> name isderived from the Greek a, not, and methyskein, tointoxicate, expressing the old belief that thestone protected its owner from strong drink. Itwas held that wine drank out of a cup ofamethyst would not intoxicate. It crystallizes indouble pyramids (base to base) of three sides oneach pyramid. Amethyst was Pastor Russell'sbirth-stone; and behold how perfect itsapplication! He was true blue in his faithfulness,and fully loyal to the blood of Christ, as shownby the red. He has the royalty now, thank God!<strong>The</strong> cup which heFM327poured never intoxicated with error those whodrank its live giving draughts from the Fountainof all Truth, our Father's Word. <strong>The</strong> six-sidedcrystallization represents his Six Volumes ofScripture Studies, and this, the Seventh, asummary of all, represents the stone as a whole.<strong>The</strong>re are over ninety varieties of crystals innature.
