FM435EZEKIEL 14INSINCERE INQUIRERSEzekiel 14:1.<strong>The</strong>n came certain of the elders of Israel untome, and sat before me.— <strong>The</strong>re will comecertain of the clergy of Christendom to the Truthpeople to listen and inquire.Ezekiel 14:2, 3.And the Word of the Lord came unto me,saying, Son of man, these men have set uptheir idols in their heart, and put thestumbling block of their iniquity before theirface: should I be inquired of at all by them?—God's Word for them will be that these men haveinsincerely set up in their hearts their idols ofgold, power, etc., and with a pretended face-tofacesincerity, have retained their iniquitousstumbling block of love of sin. Should God beinquired of at all by such men?Ezekiel 14:4.<strong>The</strong>refore speak unto them, and say untothem, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man ofthe house of Israel that setteth up his idols inhis heart, and putteth the stumbling block ofhis iniquity before his face, and cometh to theprophet; I the Lord will answer him thatcometh, according to the multitude of hisidols: — Every man in the nominal church thatinsincerely clings to his idols and to his love ofiniquity, and yet comes to one of God's people.Jehovah will answer not with words, but with theretribution deserved for his idolatry.Ezekiel 14:5.That I may take the house of Israel in theirown heart, because they are all estrangedfrom Me through their Idols.— God will treatthe nominal Christian church in a manner liketheir own insincere hearts, because by the idolsthey serve they are all estranged from their lovefor Him.— 2 <strong>The</strong>ss, 2:11, 12.
