daily consumption for the entire hospital stay. A tag is then attached at the end of the tape (Figure 8.18).
Erroneous dispensing could be prevented by matching the patient’s ID and that of the tape, simultaneously.
Using the same system, in the prescription of allegoric medicine, over- or underdosage could also
be avoided by comparing the patient’s medical history and the medicine to be dispensed. This lifesaving
system will be welcomed by the Hospital Authority in Hong Kong at any cost because the practically
free public medical services in Hong Kong has been grossly overloaded during the worst global economic
recession triggered by the CDO (collateralized debt obligation) and the CDS (credit default swap)
debacles on Wall Street.
To a certain extent, the existing RFID technology resembles a large man-made lake of the size of Lake
Superior. Better lake utilization does not depend on the development of bigger machines for enlarging
the lake. Instead, the community could feel the impact of a new lake better, if many piers were built at
strategically selected locations using conventional technologies, and if necessary, supplemented by new
ones. Simply put, auxiliary facilities with and without auxiliary technologies are needed to strengthen
the impact of the RFID in our daily lives. The situation is similar to the earlier days of the Internet;
