59.6.3 Other Specific Types of Distributed Energy Resources
The IEC 61850-420 standard includes LNs for the following types of distributed energy resources
[Sta3]:
• Photovoltaic systems: An example for a PV system is already described above.
• Diesel engines (reciprocating engine): The most important LN for a diesel engine is the
Reciprocating engine (DCIP) LN. It includes information such as the engine status, settings
for the minimum and the maximum speed, the actual engine speed, and the actual engine
torque. Examples for controls are engine on/off, crank relay driver on/off, and diagnostic
mode enable.
• Fuel cells: The most important LN for fuel cells is the Fuel Cell Controller (DFCL) LN for the
fuel cell controller. It includes status information (count of system starts, time until next maintenance,
etc.), settings (maximum fuel consumption rate, system output voltage rating, etc.), controls
(open close fuel valve, emergency stop), and measured values (system run energy, input fuel
consumption, water level remaining, etc.).
• Combined heat and power system (CHP): Specific LNs are defined for CHP-system-controllers
(DCHC), thermal storages (DCTS) and CHP boilers (DCHB).
