57.2 Overview of OPC UA System Architecture<br />

OPC UA software architecture is designed using the five-layer model, as shown in Figure 57.2. Business<br />

information models (e.g., EDDL, MIMOSA, ISA…) and vendor information model are typically built on<br />

top of OPC UA Base Services, which also provide the foundation for rebuilding existing OPC information<br />

models (DA, A&E, HDA…).<br />

The release 1.01 of OPC UA addresses a wide range of target applications:<br />

• Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and human machine interface (HMI) or more<br />

generally human system interface (HSI).<br />

• Advanced control in distributed control system (DCS): Commands may be sent to devices and<br />

programmable logic controller (PLC).<br />
