50.6.1 ZigBee Development Platforms<br />

There are several development platforms that are available from chipset manufacturers (Table 50.3).<br />

50.6.2 Industrial Applications<br />

ZigBee is particularly suitable for WSN application. Examples of <strong>industrial</strong> applications of ZigBee are<br />

• Condition-based maintenance for plant asset management<br />

• Environmental and structural monitoring<br />

• Teledosimetry in nuclear power plants<br />

These applications typically require scalability and low power consumption support. Condition-based<br />

maintenance possibly requires vibration analysis that may need the development of specific application<br />

profile in order to deal with data fragmentation because accelerometer sampling rate can reach the<br />
