54-6 Industrial Communication Systems
There are also dedicated standard bodies dealing with EMC. These include:
• The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which has different working groups:
“Comité International Spécial des Perturbations Radioélectriques” (CISPR) or International
Special Committee on Radio Interference and Technical Committee 77 (TC77).
• The “Comité Européen de Normalisation Electrotechniques” (CENELEC) or European
Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization.
CISPR works on EMC standards from 9.kHz upward (see different subcommittees from reference [8]).
These offer protection of radio reception from interference sources such as electrical appliances of all
types; the electricity supply system; industrial, scientific, and electromedical RF; broadcasting receivers
(sound and TV); and, increasingly, IT equipment (ITE). TC77 works on immunity standards for the
emission below 9.kHz.
54.4 Conclusion
This chapter proposes a brief overview of wireless communication standards that are mostly used for
short-range communications. The potential applications of these wireless communication standards in
industry, manufacturing, healthcare, and home automation are tremendous. Having knowledge of these
wireless communication standards and regulation issues is vital for engineers.
