output signal. The IED then supervises the return information from the switch. If the operation terminates<br />

with success, a command termination message will be then sent. The sequence of commands and<br />

responses is standardized in IEC 61850-7-2.<br />

59.4 Communication Services<br />

The <strong>communication</strong> services for an IED are described in the <strong>communication</strong> model by the so-called<br />

abstract <strong>communication</strong> services (Figure 59.5). These services must be implemented in an IED by using<br />

standardized protocols, (SCSM).<br />
