9-12 Industrial Communication Systems
9.6 Conclusion
In this chapter, we introduced RFID technology by explaining the main RFID architecture, which included
RFID transponders, readers, antennas, and middleware. We, then, outlined the main application areas
of RFID, which included item tracking, access control, and anticounterfeiting. Within each application
umbrella, we covered the most popular applications like baggage tracking, library book tracking, animal
tracking, hospital equipment tracking, patient tracking, newborn baby tracking, tracking children, golf
ball tracking, crowd control, vehicle identification, electronic drug pedigree, anticounterfeit bank notes,
secure passports and visas, and anticounterfeit automobile parts. There are many other applications of
RFID technology, and it can be said that the applications can only be limited by imagination.
