29.3.2 Distributed Energy Resource Model
To control the integration of distributed energy resource (DER), wind turbine power plant (WPP) in
particular, into the power grid and to improve the interoperability between WPP control systems, IEC
61400 series are specified as the standard for interconnection of monitoring and control systems as
shown in Figure 29.5.
It provides requirements relevant to the specification, engineering, use, testing, diagnosis, and maintenance
of the information to be shared in wind power plants. IEC 61400 is based on IEC 61850 by defining
additional logical node and data classes concerning WPP as shown in Figure 29.6.
It is out of scope of this section to describe in detail IEC 61400 logical nodes and data classes concerning
WPP. It is worth noticing that IEC 61400-25 communication profiles have specified different
mapping methods for the following communication protocols: MMS (refer to [1] for more details), Web
Services, OPC-XML-DA (see Chapter 57), IEC 60870-5-104, and DNP3. Refer to the IEC 61400-25 user
group Web site [2] and to the standard [3] for an in-depth study.
