Europe. And BTW - what can have happened to the other 100 kW transmitter
at Abuja Gwagwalarda? Perhaps dismantled for spares? Thanks for this
interesting information, Wolfy. 73 from (Noel Green, ibid.)
WB: {2nd unit dismantled for spares - yes I guess so, wb.}
7350 - Oct 14 at 0622 UT, best audio yet from R. Nigeria, Abuja, 0624 UT
tentative ID in passing. Slightly on the low side compared to signals on
MW 1350. Wolfgang Bueschel explains the poor reception in Europe and North
America: altho both near Abuja, this is separate from the new VON 3 x 250
kW site at Lugbe; Thomson also put in 2 x 100 kW for domestic service at
the old site Gwagwalarda, some 33 km westward, same as MW 909 kHz. Looking
at Google map, has dipole oriented 85/265 degrees.
7350 R. Nigeria, Abuja, carrier there when I checked at 0540 UT on Oct
24; what sounded like a pennywhistle IS at 0546 UT, then Nat Anthem hymn
and "I Pledge to Nigeria My Country" (which I haven't hrd in an age). Talk
by man at 0549 UT, probably an inspirational msg if they are following the
old R. Nigeria pattern; TC, "Good morning," into news read alternately by
M&W with various field reports. Sounded like an ad at 0609 UT, more talk,
several IDs as R. Nigeria; I listened to 0620 UT. Signal was poor,
slightly better from 0600 UT when presumably Lagos nx relay began. What
power are they using?
The Thomson engineer provided a maintenance expertise to repair 2 x 100 kW
domestic site transmitters at FRCN Abuja Gwagwalada SW former 7275, now
7350 kHz. They set up same steering control system like on the new 3 x 250
kW Voice of Nigeria tx center in Abuja Lugbe. Started FRCN domestic
service Abuja again on Sept 26, according observation log of Noel R.
Green-UK. SW Antenna visible in Google Maps shows approx. 85/265 east-west
direction lobe.
