UAE/U.K. UnID Somali station. A lot of Holy Quran sermon singing
transmission.
[SOMALIA non] Re new Somali station - RADIO DAMAL.
A Somali-speaking colleague says this new station (see below) is Radio
Damal, which describes itself as "the voice of the Somali people" ("odka
bulshada Somaliyeed" - this ID is clearly heard). It is based in Nairobi
and is said to aim to promote peace, unity and development. One of the
presenters used to work for the KBC's Somali service. I will try to find
out more, including an address.
I was in Cairo last week and the 11740 kHz transmission was well heard
there, opening at 1829:30 UT with Koran recitation. At 1930 UT they have
to leave 11740 kHz to make way for VOA Albanian - a pity as I couldn't
