MYANMAR 9730.81 Myanma Radio, at 0936 UT on Nov 30, vernacular
announcements & songs to 1001:03 off. Have been monitoring this freq
during the past week and today was one of their "better" performances. As
a rule, though, overall reception is too poor to be more specific about
program contents. Fortunately powerhouse VOR on 9720 kHz did not appear
until 0946 UT.
(Martien Groot-HOL, dlxd Nov 30)
NORWAY 630 The Vigra transmitter on 630 kHz will be turned off on 30
June 2011. Demolition of the facilities will start immediately after the
closure. The Rost island transmitter on 675 kHz will be closed on 31 Dec
2012. So as of 2013 the only remaining AM transmitter in Norway will be
the 153 kHz longwave outlet near the Nordkapp.
These developments also raise questions about the Kvitsoy site. I
understand that all transmitters on Kvitsoy are still being kept in
operational condition, the two S4006 units for 1314 kHz as well as the
S4005 and, probably moved in from Sveio, also S4105 shortwave equipment.
But the mediumwave transmitters are unused for years now, after a special
RNW relay, and all that is left on shortwave is 60 minutes a day of DRM,
in B10 Polskie Radio in English 1800-1900 UT on 5895 kHz.
(Kai Ludwig-D, dxld via wdxc-UK Dec 1)
OMAN 15140 on Dec 1 turned out to be a rare good day for propagation
from R. Sultanate of Oman's English hour except at 1405 UT it's in Arabic!
1415 "Radio Oman" ID, still Arabic. 1422 UT seashore sounds (waves and
gulls), another ID, still Arabic. Highly produced show with music, other
SFX, with Arabic narration. 1428 ID. Peaks S=9+12, sometimes marred by
overload from Cuba 15120 or WYFR 15130 kHz, but no co-channel QRM. 1431
fading some but still in Arabic when English news should have appeared.
1434 UT a snippet of Qur'an. What could have happened?
1. English has been cancelled permanently?
2. Rescheduled without notice?
3. DST applied unexpectedly, making everything earlier?
4. Pre-empted today only for some reason?
5. Wrong network feed by accident into 15140 transmitter?
6. English announcers have the day off?
7. Appears randomly anyway?
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Dec 1)
Roland Schulze of Stuttgart Germany told me about R Oman En nx at 1430 UT
Nov 29, lot of bells playing also. (wb)
PORTUGAL/LYBIA 17800 Listening on Nov 23rd DW Deutsches Programm at
1400 UT on 17800 kHz [via Sines-POR relay site] I found also here a lady
voice with ID "This is the Voice of Africa from a Great Jamahiriya" and
news bulletin in En [from Sabrata-LBY].
(Rumen Pankov-BUL, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Nov 23)
RUSSIA 6005 Adygey radio from Maykop heard on Nov 22 at 1800-1900 UT on
6005 kHz in Adygeyan and in Arabic and not in Turkish as earlier (maybe
Turkish is used on Fridays?). Adygey is on the air on 6005 kHz Mon and Fri
1800-1900 UT and Sun 1900-2000 UT. No bcs from Kabardino-Balkar and
Cherkess radio in their traditional bc times were in October and in
November, resp on 7325 and 6005 kHz.
