woman, into drum solo w/mention of "Luanda" by a man, followed by second
AUSTRALIA 2368.49 R. Symban, First noted July 26 from 1002 at threshold
level with music but lost by 1020 UT. Checked next day from 0930 and found
signal had improved although still poor; music sounded distinctly "Middle
Eastern" with brief anmts by man in lang. Finally today (July 28) from
0945 t/in with lively exchange between man and woman along with popular
music that was clearly Greek. Stared to drop again at around 1015 UT.
A quick mp3 recording to
brought this reply in less than an hour: "Hi John, I can confirm that this
is Radio Symban you are hearing and I am the dj playing old urban popular
Greek songs form the 60s. Regards, Tom Tsamouras." I have asked Tom for
current power as this has surely increased since last reports of 100
watts. Thanks to Ron Howard for his help with this one.
(John Herkimer-NY-USA, DXplorer July 28)
2368.50 R Symban (pres) at 1152-1203 UT on July 27. Music definitely
Greek-sounding, but no anmts heard. Fair/poor and faded away shortly after
1200 UT. First time I've heard any audio on this, so must be a power
increase, as others have surmised.
2325 VL8T, Tennant Creek NT, 2037-f/out 2105, 25 Jul'10, talks; 15231;
// 2310 VL8A & 2485 VL8K both inaudible.
(Carlos Goncalves-POR, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 26)
4920 Radio Australia, 1930 UT, En, very faint with Pacific Service. Tried
every freq combo I could think of, but couldn't come up with a mixing
product, which worked out to this freq. And I couldn't find an active freq
that would produce a sub-harmonic here. Whatever was happening, I haven't
heard it since. Interesting sidebar: wasn't this freq used for VLM4 (Bald
Hills-Brisbane), many years ago? 19 July.
(David Sharp-NSW-AUS, dxld July 26)
4920 kHz = Shepparton, 7240 kHz leapfrog over 6080 kHz, 1160 kHz lower. Or
2A minus B. Yes, I remember VLM4 Brisbane well, coincidentally.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld July 26)
