BBCWS to conduct special midwinter broadcast to Antarctica June 19th, 2009<br />

The BBC World Service will be making a special midwinter shortwave<br />

broadcast to Antarctica on Sunday 21 June at 2130 UTC. The broadcast is<br />

directed to members of the British Antarctic Survey, and will be on the<br />

following frequencies:<br />

a.. 5950 kHz (from Rampisham, UK)<br />

b.. 7295 kHz (from Rampisham, UK)<br />

c.. 7360 kHz (from Ascension Island)<br />

(Rampisham or Ascension?). Brought back happy memories of BBC Calling the<br />

concert on Deutsche Welle, Nord<strong>de</strong>ich and Ruegen Radio marit<strong>im</strong>e services in<br />

the 50ties, 60ties, 70ties.<br />

Powerhouse like local radio from Rampisham:<br />

today June 21 at 2130 UT in southwestern Germany:<br />

5950 S=9+40dB<br />

7295 S=9+20dB<br />

7360 20% audio un<strong>de</strong>rneath of R Belarus Minsk which is S=9+20dB, - but<br />

un<strong>de</strong>rstandable BBC program content from Ascension.<br />

Midwinter greetings from 2131 UT, with many phone-ins from all over GB and<br />

IRL.<br />
