IRAN 9927 kHz. On Victor's tip last week, heard V.O.Southern Azerbaijan<br />

with fair signals at 1615 kHz, no jamming (Krone, Sep 10) and again<br />

1540-1600+ with (pres) Azerbaijani talk, mx 1555-1600 UTC into talk agn;<br />

many mentions of Azerbaijan. Fair, and no jamming.<br />

Voice of Southern Azerbaijan (Azeri: Bura Janubi Azerbaijan Sasi), which<br />

was first heard in July 1996, is operated by the National and In<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nt<br />

Front of Southern Azerbaijan. Southern Azerbaijan is the Iranian province<br />

of Azarbayjan which bor<strong>de</strong>rs the Republic of Azerbaijan. Programming is<br />

hostile to the Iranian government.<br />

The radio says that it broadcasts programmes about "the daily life of the<br />

people of Southern Azerbaijan un<strong>de</strong>r Iranian oppression, the struggles of<br />

our brothers who live in Northern Azerbaijan (Republic of Azerbaijan),<br />

their long standing war with the Armenian enemy who receives help from<br />

Iran, programmes about our Azeri inheritance, our great history and<br />

civilization..."<br />

0615-0715 UTC on 11935 kHz, 1630-1730 on 6055 kHz. This radio st, which<br />

was first observed in July 1996, bcs in support of the National and<br />

In<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nt Front of Southern Azerbaijan, hostile to the Iranian<br />

government. Southern Azerbaijan is the Iranian province of Azarbayjan<br />

which bor<strong>de</strong>rs the Republic of Azerbaijan.<br />

with a reference by to man Alma Ata at 1710 UTC then man speaking<br />

continuously till my tune out. Azeri matters then gone into Azeri music.<br />
