1200-1215 UT on Dec 23, Korean talk by man and woman, 25312 heard //<br />

weaker carriers on 3480.01 kHz and 4557 kHz.<br />

Observed the start of three different programmes in Korean languages at<br />

2301 UT as follows: Home Sce 1 on 2850 and 9665 kHz; Home Sce 2 on 4450,<br />

6250 and 6399 (there were jammers on 6250 & amp; 6399!) kHz.<br />

Voice of Korea on 3560, 6280, 7180, 7570, 9345, 9975, 11535, and 12015<br />

kHz; also Voice of Korea in Japanese on 9650 (and seems the poor signals<br />

on 3250, 4405, and 11865 kHz are also in parallel?), or generally 14 or<br />

more freqs.<br />

KOREA Rep. of HLAZ-1566 kHz. The English LL program of HLAZ-1566 kHz was<br />

started in last August 2009 at 1800-1900 UT in Chinese. An announcement of<br />

"Basic English language course, and introduction to American people and<br />

culture" is heard at start 1801 UT.<br />

This program is produced in FEBC-USA by the offer of the Qingdao Korean<br />

church<br />

in Qingdao, China.<br />

MADAGASCAR Three transmitters NOW on air at RNW Madagascar.<br />

There was a fire on Christmas Eve in the high voltage room of the external<br />

mains power supply at Radio Netherlands Worldwi<strong>de</strong>'s relay station in<br />

Madagascar. Firefighters from the Madagascan capital Antananarivo managed<br />

to bring the blaze un<strong>de</strong>r control within hours.<br />

The fire <strong>de</strong>stroyed the high voltage circuit breaker equipment, so<br />

broadcasts from Madagascar had to be suspen<strong>de</strong>d while repairs were carried<br />

out. Satellite and Internet broadcasts were not affected.<br />

A temporary schedule went into effect on 1 January using the two Philips<br />

transmitters, and the 50 kW Siemens transmitter began tests on 2 January.<br />

The fourth transmitter (250 kW) is still out of service and requires some<br />

repairs, which are expected to take up to a week.<br />

insi<strong>de</strong> the power plant building [captions] The visible damage to the<br />

Siemens transformer after a summary clean up (20KV/400V- 400KVA). There is<br />

also some oil leakage.<br />
