SPAIN [non] The new DRM transmitter of REE at the Cariari <strong>de</strong> Pococi,<br />

COSTA RICA relay is still bleeding far beyond the legal 10-kHz bandwidth<br />

so touted by DRM as making it a good neighbor to analog signals. June 14<br />

at 0004, shortly after opening of 2-hour transmission centered on 9630, I<br />

can hear the DRM at least as far as plus and minus 20 kHz, not 5 kHz, i.e.<br />

down to 9610 and up to 9650, or slightly beyond both.<br />

Yes, the major brunt of this DRM is in the 9625-9635 band, but instead of<br />

cutting off sharply at the edges, it progressively becomes weaker, and I<br />

can <strong>im</strong>agine what it would look like on a spectrum analyzer.<br />

So 9625 CBC Northern Quebec is totally blocked for two pr<strong>im</strong>e evening hours<br />

so much for Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap and Saturday Night Blues and their<br />

fan in Costa Rica. It probably bleeds even further than 20 kHz in<br />

prox<strong>im</strong>ity to the transmitter.<br />
