communications network, with thirteen other member nations: Afghanistan,
Bulgaria, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea
(North Korea), East Germany, Hungary, Laos, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, the
People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen), and Vietnam. Algeria,
Iraq, Libya, and Syria became members subsequently, and Nicaragua and
Cambodia agreed to the construction of ground stations in 1986.
