This is basically a magazine program which features Sri Lankan songs, Sri<br />

Lankan news and currency rates. This program a<strong>im</strong>s at providing<br />

entertainment and information to the 75,000 Sri Lankan migrant workers.<br />

This program a<strong>im</strong>s at providing an open forum for participation. Through<br />

this program the migrant workers can send messages to their family members<br />

in Sri Lanka. The people in Sri Lanka can listen to the voices of family<br />

members living in Korea. Some of the programs a<strong>im</strong> at providing Sri Lankan<br />

workers in Korea with information on how to use and save money.<br />

This is a live program done in SLBC premises and is broadcast to Korea via<br />

the German Transmitter Station Deutschwelle which belongs to the German<br />

Government. According to the agreement the SLBC has with this broadcasting<br />

station, (Deutsche Welle) will be providing services without charge for<br />

one hour.<br />

At the same t<strong>im</strong>e CityFm service also broadcasts this program to Sri Lanka.<br />

The Lankans can listen to the voices of family members living in Korea.<br />

Samarasinghe ad<strong>de</strong>d that it is a shortwave station and that they are using<br />

shortwave to broadcast this one hour program from four to five in the<br />

evening. By tuning into 15120 shortwave frequency anyone in Sri Lanka and<br />

Korea can listen to the program. "It is our responsibility to look after<br />

our migrant workers. This is our obligation. We must do something for<br />

these people," he pointed out.<br />

SWEDEN Radio Swe<strong>de</strong>n will terminate its MW and SW broadcasts this Oct 31<br />

in favour of web services _ with Swedish R management stating that is the<br />

best use of resources and in line with international trends. The Englishlanguage<br />

service is to continue on the web and on national broadcasts. The<br />

Russian output will be available on the web as is the German now. Elle-<br />

Kari Hoejeberg, in charge of SW and MW broadcasts at Swedish R explains<br />

why the <strong>de</strong>cision was ma<strong>de</strong> to wind up the broadcasts:<br />

"We Are at a Crossroad and Had to Make a Decision".<br />

Among the <strong>im</strong>migrant languages, Albanian, Assyrian-Syriac and Bosnian-<br />

Serbian-Croatian are to be terminated on the same date. Meanwhile, Arabic<br />

and Somali - the largest <strong>im</strong>migrant language groups here at present - are<br />

to be boosted. The same applies to Romani - one of Swe<strong>de</strong>n's five official<br />

minority languages. The Persian service is to inclu<strong>de</strong> even Dari spoken by<br />

the rapidly increasing number of Afghan refugees coming to Swe<strong>de</strong>n. Kurdish<br />

broadcasts remain unchanged. Swedish Radio's output in <strong>im</strong>migrant languages<br />

will be available on the web and broadcast nationally.<br />

this can only be RTI's Indonesian service at 14-15, 205 <strong>de</strong>grees from<br />

Tainan, so off the back would be 25 <strong>de</strong>grees, close enough to USward.<br />
