43. And that ram began to
butt on either side those dogs,
foxes, and wild boars till he
had destroyed them fallf.
44. And that sheep whose
eyes were opened saw that
ram, which was amongst the
sheep, till it fforsook itsgloryf
and began to butt those sheep,
and trampled upon them, and
behaved itself unseemly. 45.
And the Lord of the sheep
sent the lamb to another lamb
and raised it to being a ram
and leader of the sheep instead
of that ram which had ffor-
are a gloss, and we should render
'raised up a ram from their midst'.
43. Destroyed them fallf. The Greek
text {i.Trii\(a(v TroWois) is here decidedly
better. Saul by no means
destroyed them all. 44. That
sheep whose eyes were opened.
This phrase as applied to Samuel
here cannot be used in the sense of
spiritual awakening and return to God
which it has elsewhere in this vision
of. vev. 28 (note). Here it must mean
the prophetic gift of insight as in 1^.
The Greek version certainly escapes
this difficulty by applying the phrase
in its usual sense to the sheep, and is
probably the true text. Till. The
