For colleges of eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>re is <strong>the</strong> possibility of a special entrance exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> for applicants who do not have what<br />

corresp<strong>on</strong>ds to an upper sec<strong>on</strong>dary school leav<strong>in</strong>g exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>the</strong>matics l<strong>in</strong>e. All colleges of eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

(<strong>in</strong>geniørhøjskoler) provide a <strong>on</strong>e-year course to prepare for <strong>the</strong> entrance exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>, compris<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g subjects:<br />

Danish and <strong>the</strong> history of ideas, English, German, ma<strong>the</strong>matics, physics and chemistry.<br />

II.1.2. Qualificati<strong>on</strong>s for admissi<strong>on</strong> to university<br />

The studentereksamen, <strong>the</strong> HF, <strong>the</strong> HHX, <strong>the</strong> HTX and equivalent qualificati<strong>on</strong>s will, as a rule, satisfy <strong>the</strong> general admissi<strong>on</strong><br />

requirements of <strong>the</strong> universities. Certa<strong>in</strong> courses, however, have special requirements c<strong>on</strong>cern<strong>in</strong>g specific subjects, grades,<br />

etc. Thus, for example, exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>in</strong> ma<strong>the</strong>matics and/or physics at <strong>the</strong> A level of <strong>the</strong> upper sec<strong>on</strong>dary school leav<strong>in</strong>g<br />

exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>, ma<strong>the</strong>matics l<strong>in</strong>e, are required for admissi<strong>on</strong> to a large number of technical and science courses and courses <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> social sciences.<br />

A few <strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong>s have entrance exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>s, for example <strong>the</strong> Danish School of Journalism, <strong>the</strong> academies of music and <strong>the</strong><br />

schools of architecture.<br />

II.2. Intermediate qualificati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>in</strong><br />

higher educati<strong>on</strong><br />

II.2.1. Intermediate qualificati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>in</strong><br />

n<strong>on</strong>-university higher educati<strong>on</strong><br />

The majority of <strong>the</strong> n<strong>on</strong>-university courses c<strong>on</strong>sist of an <strong>in</strong>tegral study period. There are no <strong>in</strong>termediate qualificati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

II.2.2. Intermediate university qualificati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

Basisuddannelser (basic courses) at <strong>the</strong> universities of Roskilde and Aalborg<br />

Roskilde University offers three basic courses, each of two years’ durati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> natural sciences, <strong>the</strong> humanities and <strong>the</strong><br />

social sciences.<br />

Aalborg University offers two basic courses, each last<strong>in</strong>g <strong>on</strong>e year, <strong>in</strong> technology and science and <strong>the</strong> social sciences.<br />

The basic courses are <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary and project-oriented. They require students to take part <strong>in</strong> project work, courses and<br />

sem<strong>in</strong>ars. The project work takes place <strong>in</strong> two or more project periods. It is normally carried out <strong>in</strong> groups, but students may<br />

also choose to work <strong>in</strong>dividually. At least <strong>on</strong>e project, however, must take <strong>the</strong> form of group work.<br />

Throughout <strong>the</strong> course, <strong>the</strong> performance of <strong>the</strong> project groups and <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dividual students is assessed c<strong>on</strong>t<strong>in</strong>uously. At <strong>the</strong> end<br />

of <strong>the</strong> course,<br />

students hand <strong>in</strong> a written report <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir f<strong>in</strong>al project, and <strong>the</strong> student is assessed <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> basis of this report and an oral<br />

exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> by <strong>on</strong>e or more <strong>in</strong>ternal exam<strong>in</strong>ers and <strong>on</strong>e external exam<strong>in</strong>er.<br />

II.2.3. Academic recogniti<strong>on</strong> of <strong>in</strong>termediate<br />

qualificati<strong>on</strong>s for purposes of fur<strong>the</strong>r study
