II. Qualificati<strong>on</strong>s and diplomas<br />

II.1. Qualificati<strong>on</strong>s for admissi<strong>on</strong> to higher educati<strong>on</strong><br />

II.1.1. N<strong>on</strong>-university level<br />

FHL<br />

One may be admitted to l<strong>on</strong>g-term studies at <strong>the</strong> FHL if <strong>on</strong>e holds an officially approved certificate from Liechtenste<strong>in</strong> (e.g.<br />

Matura, Fachhochschulreife). Applicants from an EU/EEA country have free access to all subjects if <strong>the</strong>y hold an officially<br />

approved certificate which allows <strong>the</strong>m to enter a higher educati<strong>on</strong>al <strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> EU/EEA country where <strong>the</strong>y received<br />

<strong>the</strong> certificate. Swiss nati<strong>on</strong>als may be admitted if <strong>the</strong>y hold<br />

<strong>the</strong> certificate of <strong>the</strong> Matura or Berufsmatura. O<strong>the</strong>r applicants may be admitted if <strong>the</strong> advisory senate of <strong>the</strong> FHL approves<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir certificate for admissi<strong>on</strong> to a higher educati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong>. In such cases, additi<strong>on</strong>al exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>s may be required. In<br />

additi<strong>on</strong>, all applicants must show a certificate of active employment <strong>in</strong> <strong>on</strong>e subject-related field (at least a 50% part-time<br />

employment). The courses which are offered fit <strong>in</strong> around <strong>the</strong> students’ work<strong>in</strong>g hours and are undertaken al<strong>on</strong>gside <strong>the</strong><br />

students’ work.<br />

II.1.2. University level<br />

IAP<br />

Because of <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternati<strong>on</strong>al character of <strong>the</strong> student body of <strong>the</strong> IAP, <strong>the</strong>re are three different types of entry qualificati<strong>on</strong>:<br />

1. for students educated accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>European</strong> educati<strong>on</strong>al systems, admissi<strong>on</strong> for Baccalaureate studies requires <strong>the</strong><br />

completi<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> Matura, Abitur or its equivalent;<br />

2. for students educated accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> United States educati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

system, admissi<strong>on</strong> to Baccalaureate studies requires <strong>the</strong> completi<strong>on</strong> of a United States high school diploma or its<br />

equivalent and a<br />

fur<strong>the</strong>r two years of study at <strong>the</strong> Baccalaureate level at a United States university;<br />

While acceptance for <strong>the</strong> Baccalaureate degree <strong>in</strong> philosophy for United States students is, <strong>in</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ciple, possible accord<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

number 2 above, <strong>the</strong> normal route for American students wish<strong>in</strong>g to study at <strong>the</strong> IAP is <strong>the</strong> completi<strong>on</strong> of a United States BA<br />

degree or its equivalent, followed by admissi<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> Master’s (M.Phil.) programme.<br />

II.2. Intermediate qualificati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>in</strong> higher educati<strong>on</strong><br />

II.2.1. N<strong>on</strong>-university level<br />

FHL<br />

At <strong>the</strong> FHL students must pass each course unit (module) and two levels of qualificati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> four-year l<strong>on</strong>g-term studies<br />

programme. After four semesters (two years) a Vordiplom exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> has to be passed which is similar to <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al<br />

undergraduate exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>. This qualificati<strong>on</strong> is necessary to c<strong>on</strong>t<strong>in</strong>ue <strong>the</strong> studies. This cycle c<strong>on</strong>sists ma<strong>in</strong>ly of basic<br />

subjects.<br />

II.2.2. University level
