Two Year Rule:<br />

A student must pass <strong>the</strong> sec<strong>on</strong>d university exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> commerce with<strong>in</strong> two academic years from <strong>the</strong> date of pass<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

first university exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Third year: third university exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>in</strong> commerce<br />

No student may register for <strong>the</strong> third year programme of study until <strong>the</strong> sec<strong>on</strong>d university exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> commerce has been<br />

passed.<br />

To be admitted to <strong>the</strong> third exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> a student must have satisfactorily attended, for at least three terms (i.e. <strong>the</strong> third year),<br />

<strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g courses compris<strong>in</strong>g 14 units.<br />

Compulsory:<br />

Account<strong>in</strong>g III, <strong>the</strong> macroec<strong>on</strong>omic envir<strong>on</strong>ment, pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of management, pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of market<strong>in</strong>g, MIS II — systems<br />

analysis and design.<br />

Opti<strong>on</strong>al:<br />

Courses to make up four units must be selected from:<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess f<strong>in</strong>ance and taxati<strong>on</strong>, quantitative methods for management, semi-State organisati<strong>on</strong>s, company law and <strong>the</strong> law<br />

of bus<strong>in</strong>ess organisati<strong>on</strong>, French, German (A) or (B), Irish, Italian, Spanish.<br />

Selecti<strong>on</strong> of courses:<br />

A student may not select a course which has already been taken <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> previous year.<br />

Fourth year: BComm degree exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong><br />

No student may register for <strong>the</strong> fourth year programme of study until <strong>the</strong> third university exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> has been passed.<br />

To be admitted to <strong>the</strong> BComm degree exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>, a student must have satisfactorily attended, for at least three terms (i.e. <strong>the</strong><br />

fourth year), this course compris<strong>in</strong>g 12 units selected from <strong>the</strong> list of specific subject groups.<br />

1. Courses compris<strong>in</strong>g at least six units and not more than eight units chosen from <strong>on</strong>e of <strong>the</strong> major subject groups —<br />

account<strong>in</strong>g, ec<strong>on</strong>omics, management <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> systems, law, management, market<strong>in</strong>g and public adm<strong>in</strong>istrati<strong>on</strong>;<br />

2. Courses to make up 12 units, chosen from <strong>the</strong> rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g major subjects groups above or a language.<br />

Selecti<strong>on</strong> of courses:<br />

A student may not select a course which has already been taken <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> previous year. Where a course is available as part of<br />

more than <strong>on</strong>e subject group, credit for tak<strong>in</strong>g it may <strong>on</strong>ly be obta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>on</strong>ce.<br />

Master of Arts (MA) (University College Cork)<br />

Regulati<strong>on</strong>s for <strong>the</strong> degree of MA<br />

The degree of MA will be awarded <strong>on</strong> satisfactory completi<strong>on</strong> of a dissertati<strong>on</strong> and/or <strong>on</strong> pass<strong>in</strong>g a written exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Additi<strong>on</strong>al practical or oral exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>s may be held <strong>in</strong> some cases.
