III. Special types and forms of f<strong>in</strong>al qualificati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>in</strong> higher<br />

educati<strong>on</strong><br />

Qualificati<strong>on</strong>s for practical pursuit of specific professi<strong>on</strong>s<br />

Some professi<strong>on</strong>s are regulated by law and require an official author-isati<strong>on</strong> and eventually additi<strong>on</strong>al tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g specific to <strong>the</strong><br />

professi<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> top of <strong>the</strong> higher educati<strong>on</strong> course of study.<br />

Authorisati<strong>on</strong> and appo<strong>in</strong>tment<br />

Occupati<strong>on</strong>al <strong>the</strong>rapists and physio<strong>the</strong>rapists: After completi<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> course, <strong>the</strong> school issues a certificate of<br />

authorisati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> behalf of <strong>the</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Board of Health.<br />

Midwives: After completi<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> course, students receive authorisati<strong>on</strong> from <strong>the</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Board of Health and are able to<br />

work as midwives.<br />

Doctors: Authorisati<strong>on</strong> to work <strong>in</strong>dependently as a doctor is granted by <strong>the</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Board of Health to pers<strong>on</strong>s who have<br />

been employed for a total of 18 m<strong>on</strong>ths as a registrar <strong>in</strong> registrar positi<strong>on</strong>s approved for this purpose by <strong>the</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Board of<br />

Health. The employment must <strong>in</strong>clude six m<strong>on</strong>ths’ surgery, six m<strong>on</strong>ths’ <strong>in</strong>ternal medic<strong>in</strong>e and six m<strong>on</strong>ths’ employment as an<br />

assistant to a general practiti<strong>on</strong>er. In special cases <strong>the</strong> latter can be replaced by employment at a cl<strong>in</strong>ical hospital ward.<br />

Dentists: In order to ga<strong>in</strong> authorisati<strong>on</strong> from <strong>the</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Board of Health, dentistry graduates must have completed a <strong>on</strong>eyear<br />

period of assistantship <strong>in</strong> an authorised dentist’s practice or <strong>the</strong> municipal dental service.<br />

Lawyers: Appo<strong>in</strong>tment as a lawyer requires a law degree and a three-year period of employment as a solicitor’s clerk or<br />

similar. This three-year period is a practical law tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g period where graduates will be deal<strong>in</strong>g with actual legal problems.<br />

Chartered surveyors: For appo<strong>in</strong>tment as a chartered surveyor by <strong>the</strong> Danish Commerce and Companies Agency, <strong>the</strong><br />

candidate must have passed a Danish surveyor’s exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> followed by at least three years’ general registry duties <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

employment of a practis<strong>in</strong>g chartered<br />

surveyor or similar work.<br />

Chartered accountants: Appo<strong>in</strong>tment by <strong>the</strong> Danish Commerce and Companies Agency as a chartered accountant requires<br />

that <strong>the</strong> candidate has successfully underg<strong>on</strong>e <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g educati<strong>on</strong> and tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g: (1) an HA course, an HD course or <strong>the</strong><br />

cand.oec<strong>on</strong>. course, all of <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong> specific subjects; (2) <strong>the</strong> cand.merc.aud. course (with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> last eight years); (3) at least<br />

three years’ employment <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> practice of a chartered accountant; (4) <strong>the</strong> chartered accountants’ exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Translators and <strong>in</strong>terpreters: The Danish Commerce and Companies Agency appo<strong>in</strong>ts sworn translators and <strong>in</strong>terpreters<br />

up<strong>on</strong> successful exam<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> from <strong>the</strong> Copenhagen Bus<strong>in</strong>ess School <strong>in</strong> those languages where no cand.l<strong>in</strong>g.merc. courses are<br />

offered. The cand.l<strong>in</strong>g.merc. and cand.<strong>in</strong>terpret. degrees <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> major languages fulfil <strong>the</strong> educati<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s for be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

appo<strong>in</strong>ted sworn translators and <strong>in</strong>terpreters.<br />

Veter<strong>in</strong>ary surge<strong>on</strong>s: Authorisati<strong>on</strong> to work <strong>in</strong>dependently as a veter<strong>in</strong>ary surge<strong>on</strong> is granted by <strong>the</strong> Danish veter<strong>in</strong>ary<br />

service to pers<strong>on</strong>s who have completed <strong>the</strong> Danish cand.med.vet. degree or a similar foreign degree.<br />

Professi<strong>on</strong>al postgraduate teacher tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g for upper sec<strong>on</strong>dary schools, commercial and technical colleges, etc.<br />

The professi<strong>on</strong>al five-m<strong>on</strong>th postgraduate teacher tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programme (Pædagogikum) for upper sec<strong>on</strong>dary schools and HF<br />

takes place with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> first two years of employment after <strong>the</strong> award of a candidatus degree. It is composed of a practical and<br />

a <strong>the</strong>oretical course, each of which must be passed <strong>in</strong>dividually. The practical course takes place at an upper sec<strong>on</strong>dary school<br />

or a similar <strong>in</strong>stitute, where <strong>the</strong> candidate teaches under <strong>the</strong> supervisi<strong>on</strong> of permanent staff members.
