e acceptable from two perspectives: content and language. As far as content is concerned, the translator has
the freedom of juggling with the information provided by the ST, according to the lines drawn in the
translation brief. On the other hand, the linguistic expectances of the addressee (wording, grammar, sentence
length, specific constructions) have to be met till the very last one. This supposes good maternal language
knowledge and cultural awareness.
Thus, it is unacceptable to see how dilettantes play translators. It is our firm belief that translators
should be the only ones producing texts that are to be used in official setting or by the great public. By doing
so, mistakes and misunderstandings could be more easily avoided.
