The metamorphosis of Gregor Samsa into a beetle and the metamorphosis of a whole town into rhynoceros is an index of
obliteration of the human being. A being that has forgotten its meaning, and, in the absence of any god, develops a consciousness
of uncertainty, anguished in its own incredulity. If in the case of Gregor Samsa the metamorphosis is the means by which the
individual remains authentic, unaltered by the inquieries of the society, in the case of the rhynoceros the metamorphosis is the
means by which the individual, as unicity, vanishes, becoming a fake.
